The Descriptive Essay
A descriptive essay is an academic text in which the writer strives to create a vivid image of a person, a place, a memory, an experience, or an object by using detailed observations and descriptions. To achieve a vivid image of what you are describing, you must focus on your five senses: sight, sound, smell, touch, taste.
The goal of a descriptive essay is to paint an image for the reader that is so vivid that he can almost see it, feel it or taste it. It's your job as a writer to play with words to create a vivid image of what you're describing. For instance, say 'stallion', 'mare', or 'colt', instead of ' horse'; say 'slice' instead of 'cut'; say 'mansion', 'dwelling', 'hut', 'cottage', or 'ranch', instead of 'house'.
A descriptive essay should mostly be written in the present tense and should be loaded with adjectives.
A descriptive essay - like any other essay - should include an introduction, a body, and a conclusion.
