The Narrative Essay

The narrative essay uses a well told story as the basis for drawing a conclusion (which is often called moral lesson).  The moral lesson can be explicit or implicit. For example a text entitled "Dangerous Adventures" would be a narrative essay.

A narrative essay follows a pyramidal structure with the climax at the top and the exposition and the resolution at the bottom.

The main elements of a narrative essay are:

the exposition,

the rising action,

the climax,

the falling action,

the resolution.

The rising action, the climax, and the falling action together, form'the plot'.
